I’ve recently had the chance to make some calls using Skype for a couple weeks. Let me tell you there was a time about 8 years ago that this service would have been amazing but DSL had not come to town yet. Then even after, had there been such an easy way to stay connected to my online friends across the country, I would have signed up in a heartbeat!
Beyond just calling any landline or cell in just about the entire world, I began learning about Skype’s features starting with calling my very own cell phone in my very own house. I of course didn’t have a video chat since I was using a computer to call and I don’t have a webcam at the moment. But some things I liked about the actual software is that is gives you the option to turn on the video, or if you haven’t had a shower and are still in your jammies at 5 PM, you can leave the video off and still have a call. I never tried calling my family at home from my cell phone using Skype either, the mobile app worked just like the desktop app and I could call my family while I was shopping! And I am not the only mom that uses Skype to her advantage. Check out this infographic!
So as you can see many moms are turning to Skype to keep in touch, many using video chat, which is something I hope I can do soon!
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Skype. I received Skype credits to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.
