Protecting your Online Reputation
As much as I want to admit that is blog is a hobby, the truth is, that it’s an actual business. While it started as a hobby to write my thoughts, it turned into a platform for me to reach many and for advertisers to use me as a vessel to spread the word, and in one single business transaction, a business is born. I am a mommy blogger that writes a ton about food and family, since both are my life right now.
As a business it is very important to protect your online reputation as a blogger you have to be very careful about how you are coming up in searches. Many companies want to pay bloggers to write an article but when they search for off the wall terms on the blog to make sure that there is no adult content related to the search, they sometimes and very incorrectly find some results that aren’t making them look too good.
This isn’t about trolls who post hateful comments, this is about making sure your business, that you earn money from, is being presented the best way possible, by doing some detective work or hiring a reputation management company to take care of it for you.
I know I put countless hours into my blogging both the food posts that I love since that is the career I chose, or the posts I write for reviews and even articles I am paid to write. I want to make sure the words I write are protected and that I look like a blogger that brands can trust. This is my job and it pays me so I want to protect it from the fate that other bloggers accidentally got.
Also, when it comes time for me to open a business, and I have been in talks with some colleagues about starting a catering business, I want that business site to shine. I don’t want the reputation to be tainted in any way because honestly, it’s hard enough just to keep the business alive in this economy, and I know the power of online social media can help or hurt a business. I want it to help mine!
