Brilliant Ways to Create Interesting Focal Points for Each Room

Source

Every room should have a point of interest. Ideally, you want people to be able to walk into each room in your house and go wow. There are lots of ways to do this, but by far the best approach is to use a decorative item that draws the eye and sets the scene.

Below are some of my favourite ways of doing exactly that. Most of them are super easy to implement and, importantly, the majority of these ideas are not expensive.

Large canvas prints

Artwork is a great way to set the scene. A large canvas print hung over a fireplace or on the wall you first see when you enter a room is a great way to create a focal point. Hellocanvas make it really easy for you to order wonderful canvas prints that you can use on any wall of your home.

A nice ornament

Another nice way to create a focal point is to use a nice ornament to do so. For example, in a dining room, a striking centrepiece for the table can work well. Or, you could keep your table laid with a nice set of crockery and cutlery, which turns the table itself into a great feature.

In a living room, you could even put the ornament in a nook, or on a pedestal. This works surprisingly well, especially if you use an up or down light. It is surprising how different an ornament can look in the evening when it is cleverly lit.

Mirrors

One of my favourites is mirrors. They really do draw the eye and as a bonus, they help you to make more of the natural light in your home. Mirrors pick up the light, capture it, and bounce it back into the room. This makes it feel brighter, and usually, has the effect of making the room look bigger as well.

Plants

Plants are something everyone should consider incorporating into their home. They are really good for your health which is clear from the numerous studies that have been carried. You can read about some of these studies and their results here.

Naturally, you have to be careful to choose plants that are suitable for growing indoors. It is important to make sure that nobody is allergic to the plant you are planning to use.

If you want the eye to be drawn to a particular area of a room, put a large, sculptural plant in that area. Be sure to choose a nice pot that fits in with the look and feel of the room. You do not want your beautiful focal point to turn into an eyesore, so take good care of it. A drooping or dying plant does not look good in any setting.

Do not worry if you do not have green fingers. There are plenty of devices that can help you to keep the plants that you choose healthy. These gadgets will tell you when it needs to be watered and remind you to periodically add plant food.
