Peaches and Cream Tartlets with Grandma Hoerner’s Natural Pie Filling

Peaches and Cream Tartlets with Grandma Hoerner’s Natural Pie Filling

When an old blogging buddy asks me if she can send some delicious all natural pie filling for me to try and talk to my readers about, I of course will say yes. Not because it is pie filling but because this great person has been a blogging friend of mine for a long time and knows that not only am I an aspiring chef but also that I much prefer organic and real food. Grandma Hoerner’s is a company that applies home cooking logic to providing delicious goods to the consumers. They cook things like jelly’s, pie fillings and [...]

Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls with Spiced Ginger Icing

rolls

As a food blogger I get many offers to try new things. Never in my life had I even HEARD of whole wheat stone ground PASTRY flour. I know my flours, my start in culinary school was in a baking class. Nevertheless, Hodgson Mill asked me to come up with a recipe using their flours. I couldn’t quite figure out what I would make but decided to use my regular cinnamon roll recipe and add a few ingredients As i was waiting for my rolls to rise I took the time to look at the packaging and ingredients. I knew my flavors [...]

Happy Ending Brownies

closebrownies

I don’t usually enjoy chocolate, I know that seems so weird to most. “Who doesn’t like CHOCOLATE?” The truth is I haven’t been exposed to really good chocolate, I mean REALLY good stuff not the baking staple semi sweet chips or the toll house cocoa. But as it were I have cravings every once in a while and last night I wanted brownies…PRONTO! I don’t make brownies even twice a year so I had no recipes on me. I did what I knew and that was hit Food Network and search the recipes there and as if it were kismet [...]

Cookies That Should Be Ashamed Of Themselves

cookies

The other day I got my daily delivery from the blog Brown Eyed Baker in my email inbox. I saw her Colossal Reese’s Pieces Chocolate Chip Cookies and knew I had to make them. As I went through the recipe I was shocked at the amount of naughty added to them and even more shocked that she said to put 1/4 C. of dough in each cookie. The results? A very heavy, soft, delicious and downright sinful cookie. Well played Brown Eyed Baker, well played. Here is my photo of these delicious morsels!

Mama’s Mississippi Mud with COOL WHIP

momsmud

I don’t really need to mention how busy I am with being a student, working, and being a mom of three busy kids. I try to make dessert for them as often as I can because that is when my daughter, without fail, tells me I am the most awesome mom ever. Plus it helps me connect with them. Having dessert everyday doesn’t happen but I go out of my way to make it special when I whip up treats for them. I remember when I was little that my mom worked full time so we didn’t get dessert often [...]

Rainbow Cupcakes for St. Patrick’s Day

rainbow cupcakes

I had wanted to make the rainbow cupcakes for a while just to try the technique. I went bold of course since I am pretty colorful and now that I have done this I can say two things. Doing this alone at 10 PM makes the work a lot harder and the other thing is the work is completely worth the effort! And I just love how the wrapper takes on the colors too its such a neat effect!   4.8 from 12 reviews Print Rainbow Cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream Recipe type: dessert Prep time:  15 mins Cook time:  30 mins [...]

Strawberry Milkshake Whoppers Cupcakes

Strawberry Milkshake Whoppers Cupcakes

One of my favorite candy to eat is whoppers and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the strawberry ones. Artificial flavoring, sure but I love them. I decided to try and make some cupcakes that taste like them. I knew it would be hard I just needed to add malted milk powder to get that malt taste. I would have added even more powder than i did but I think it would have buried the strawberry flavor because I used fresh strawberry, not extract. I think the cake is delicious and moist and not too sweet which is good because the frosting [...]

Root Beer Float Cupcakes

_DSC9683 copy

I’d been wanting to make these for a long time and I finally came across a recipe I like at Tidy Mom. She mentioned in the recipe to cut the amount of Root Beer concentrate because it was too strong but I think my flour made the taste change because there wasn’t nearly enough flavor for my liking. I am going to try next time with all purpose flour and see if that changes. The frosting recipe is spot on though! They were definitely kid approved though! Orange Crush Cupcakes

Orange Crush Cupcakes

Mmm I bet you can smell the orange! These Orange Crush Cupcakes are the first of the three monthly themed cupcakes I do and this month I chose pop, that is soda to you southern folks! I did end up putting some straight buttercream in the center of the cakes too so there is a hint of creme, which made a delicious orange cream flavor. Super easy makeup for these cakes just a little prep with orange zesting. For this particular recipe I would  suggest using a microplane to get your zest because you will have long strings, which I [...]

Cinfully Good Cinnamon Rolls

_DSC9408 copycinn

I just recently made cinnamon rolls from scratch for the first time. And it won’t be the last time either. As always with yeast you have to cross your fingers that it works and the first time I made a dough it didn’t rise but I tweaked my recipe the 2nd time and it was perfect. It’s a pretty common recipe, with few ingredients and most of the time is spent waiting for rise. The results are definitely worth the wait! Cinfully Good Cinnamon Rolls Ingredients: Dough 4 C all-purpose flour 1 tsp salt ¼ C. granulated sugar 1 TBSP [...]

Strawberry Pretzel Parfait

dessert2

A salad this is not, it is not tossed, not mixed with anything its a layered dessert that I am calling a parfait! Loosely based on the Strawberry Pretzel salad (again, the name irks me), this dessert in my style isn’t quite as fast as the usual. This one calls for fresh and homemade stuff instead of frozen stuff. I served this at the family Christmas party and told nobody I had brought it and watched everyone gobble it up. Its not the usual rich dessert you would serve at a holiday party but I think that is why they [...]
