How to Convince Your Partner to Try Marriage Counseling

May 9, 2017 by Mandy

If you think you and your spouse or long term partner could benefit from some couples counseling, you may be on to a very good idea. Many couples have worked through issues, learned to communicate and express their feelings better, and strengthened their relationships by talking to an independent and professionally trained person. However, it can be hard to raise the subject, and not everyone is open to the idea of seeking professional help for private matters. Here is some advice if you want to persuade your partner that going for counseling sessions would benefit you both:

Don’t Raise It During an Argument

Some people take suggestions of marriage counseling as a criticism of how they are ‘performing’ as a partner. This makes them feel defensive, and like they are being judged. Of course, this makes them far less receptive to the idea, and they can also begin to feel insecure that you consider the relationship to be in trouble. To minimize the chances of them taking it in this way, never raise the matter during an argument, or when you are upset. You shouldn’t make it feel like you want to go to counseling because of something they have said or done in a given moment, but as a means to generally improve your relationship.

Naturally, some situations are different, for example if you want to seek counseling to help your relationship get over an instance of infidelity, it is natural that you won’t be on an even footing in deciding to do it. However, in most cases where you just want to improve communication and reduce friction, it is more constructive to raise it as something that stands to make your relationship ‘even better’, rather than to correct one sided issues.

Consider Their Objections

If your partner objects at first, don’t just write this off as being stubborn. Try to find out just why they are uncomfortable with the idea, and give them reassurance or information to help assuage their concerns. Perhaps they feel that you don’t need it, because they think counseling is for couples on the brink of divorce. If that is the case, assure them that many people who are in strong, stable relationships go to counseling to keep working to keep their relationships strong. Maybe they don’t like the idea of talking to a stranger about personal things. In this case, you could show them some research into why counseling is effective. Try and understand where they are coming from, rather than pushing through their concerns.

Think About Other Options

Some people simply aren’t comfortable with the idea of going to therapy sessions, but you don’t need to give up. You can also consider the option of online marriage counseling. This would allow your partner to feel things were a bit more private and discrete, which may be enough to persuade them to give it a try.

Remember that one of the points of counseling is to improve communication. So try and make sure the way you communicate and how much you are willing to compromise while trying to persuade your partner to attend is already showing you moving in the right direction.

5 Things Your Dermatologist Wants You to Know

May 2, 2017 by Mandy

Source

Each week, there seems to be a new product or technique to add to the bevy of skincare tricks already out there. So, what’s a girl to do when it comes to keeping her skin radiant and healthy? Here are five things your dermatologist wants you to know about healthy skin:

1. Avoid the Sun

The sun’s UV rays are harmful to your sensitive skin and can cause premature aging, wrinkles, and even skin cancer. Avoid exposing yourself to the sun for long periods of time, and when in doubt, wear a hat and apply sunscreen.

2. Use the Right Ingredients

With so many skin serums out there, how do you know which ones will work the best? The trick is to find the ones that contain healthy ingredients for your skin, including hyaluronic acid and a ferulic acid serum. When applying these serums and moisturizers, always layer from thinnest to thickest to help your skin absorb each layer effectively.

3. Drink Water

Drinking the recommended eight glasses of water per day is essential to healthy skin. In addition to providing essential electrolytes for hydration, sufficient water also keeps you feeling energized throughout the day.

4. Plump Your Skin Without the Needles

Forgo cosmetic surgeries and use the power of ginseng instead. When topically applied, this nutrient helps to stimulate blood flow to your capillaries, resulting in firm and glowing skin.

5. Remove All of Your Makeup Each Night

Clogged pores can lead to more than unsightly breakouts. Effectively removing all of your makeup is the gateway to gorgeous, radiant skin. It also helps your face become a clean canvas that is ready and willing to absorb your nightly moisturizers and skin serums.

From drinking lots of water to using serums containing the right ingredients, you can keep your skin looking younger for much longer.

The Science of Time: Gaining Control Over the Crazy Pace of Your Life

April 4, 2017 by Mandy

Working hard to attain goals is an important and commendable part of life, but if you’re constantly on the go and you frequently feel as though you never have enough time in your day, it’s a definite sign that you’re overdoing things. Although it may sound contradictory, one of the best ways to regain control over the pace of your life is to slow down.

Changing your mental perception of time can actually make you feel like you have more of it. Practicing mindfulness is the way to do it. When you are more aware of each moment that passes, it seems to slow time down so that you don’t feel it rush by you. You will start to feel happier and more content with your life.

How To Practice Mindfulness

Here are some tips on mindfulness for beginners.

  • Increase your concentration: concentration is the foundation and partner of mindfulness. Focusing on your breathing, where you are, what is happening now, are all ways of practicing mindfulness. At first, you may find it difficult not to become distracted, but the more you practice concentration, the easier it will become.
  • Work on your breathing: Most people don’t breathe correctly; the take quick, shallow breaths.  Learn how to breathe properly using long, deep inhalations and exhalations. Focus on your breathing several times each day for five or ten minutes. This will make you more aware of how you’re breathing and will help you correct it when it becomes irregular.
  • Meditate often: Sitting to meditate has an important part in mindfulness. Start in small increments, say ten minutes. If you find it virtually impossible to empty your mind pick a simple object, such as an orange, to meditate on. Focus on its color, the texture of its skin and its scent, and let these qualities absorb you. Listening to music also helps. With the help of this android alarm clock, you can set a time and it will play relaxing tunes.
  • Be patient with yourself: Practicing mindfulness takes time, longer for some than others. Be patient and don’t give yourself a hard time if you don’t find it as easy as your thought you would. Be sure to make mindfulness a priority. Unless you take it seriously and make it an important part of your lifestyle, you will never benefit from it.
  • Be grateful: Expressing gratitude is an important part of mindfulness. Remind yourself that you are thankful for the things you have in life, for the good people you know. Expressing gratitude makes you more aware of the things in your life that make you happy.

Start practicing mindfulness today and before long you will find you have regained control over the crazy pace of your life.

  • Enjoy it: As you begin to master mindfulness you will notice a new aura of peace surrounding your life. Enjoy this feeling, it is healing and will be beneficial to your physical, mental and emotional health.

Helping Your Family Through The Loss of a Loved One

March 28, 2017 by anthony

The loss of a loved one is something that none of us ever want to experience, unfortunately however, it is a cold fact of life and one never knows when the inevitable will occur. There is little you can do to prepare yourself for a loss like this, regardless of whether they have suffered with a disease or if it came as a shock. One of the most important things however and one of the best ways to get through such an awful period of your life, is by helping your family and being helped by them. As a family unit you will be in a far stronger position to deal with the loss and try to continue your lives.

As I said you can never prepare but if this is something that you are going through right now, then here is how you can best help your family.

Talking

They say that some people like to deal with these things on their own, in my experience this is not the case and talking is truly the best therapy. Encouraging a family member to talk can really help, they don’t necessarily have to talk to you, just anyone who is empathetic and can understand their emotions. My brother was traditionally a ‘head in the sand’ kind of guy but I knew that he could do with chatting to someone, we had an excellent female funeral director who asked him a few questions and boom, the floodgates opened. Find a way for your family member to open up, it will help them significantly.

Being Open

One thing that often stops family members from talking to each other is that they feel as though if they are having a bad day that they don’t want to bring the other person down, if they are coping alright that day. Help your family by reminding them that you are open at any time for a chat or to help them out.

Pick Up The Details

During the grief that follows after losing a family member, many small details which you could normally deal with easily become a bigger effort and you can support your family in this way. Looking after a family member’s child or children for example, picking up some groceries or even helping with the funeral arrangements are all ways in which you can be supportive within the family.

Give Them Space

As much as it is important that your family members open up about how they are feeling, it is also vitally important that you give them enough space to grieve. Many of us truly don’t know how we are feeling after someone passes away and persistent questions will do us no favors at all. We all need that little bit of space from time to time to be alone with our thoughts, cry if we need to and consider what state our emotions are in, it is during this time that our bodies allow us to grieve and without this space we can end up failing to deal with the loss which could manifest itself in negative ways in the future.

Why Every High-Achieving Woman Needs Hormone Replacement Therapy

March 18, 2017 by Mandy

For all women across the world, balancing the demands of a successful professional life and career with raising kids and caring for a family has become the norm. If this is you, you’re probably juggling many different roles in your life. And, to be truly successful at everything you want to achieve in life, you need to remain healthy and fit.

Hormone imbalances and fluctuations are an unfortunate part of life that impacts the health of women everywhere. Thankfully, hormone replacement therapy in Los Angeles can help. Read ahead to recognize how hormones affect your health. Understand what you can do to remain fit and continue to achieve everything you set your heart on.

What Success Means to High-Achieving Women Everywhere

A study was conducted on 25,000 Harvard Business School MBA graduates, and some very startling results were published in the Harvard Business Review. Researchers reviewed MBA graduates belonging to three groups, the Baby Boomers of ages 49 to 67, Generation X of ages 32 to 48, and Millennials between the ages of 26 to 31 or Generation Y as they are also called. For high-aspiring women, the definition of success is more than just an amazing career. Once they cross the age of 25, for every woman success means, “Raising happy, productive children, contributing to the world around me, and pursuing work that is meaningful to me.”

Hormone Imbalances Can Get in the Way of Success

For women, having aspirations is a way of life. But, so is hormone imbalances. Every woman who has hit puberty is well aware of how hormones rule her life. Whether mild or severe, you’ve likely faced mood swings, depression and anxiety, rage, and other emotional upheavals. Add to that are the physical symptoms of belly cramps, bloating, weight gain, and fatigue. Pregnancy and childbirth can contribute to the hormonal imbalances and fluctuations in a big way. Then comes perimenopause around the age of 35 to 40 at possibly the precise time when your career is ready to take off in a big way.

Success in your career isn’t something you can achieve overnight. It takes many years of hard work and diligence. Which is why, just when you’re ready to climb the rungs of the corporate ladder, you absolutely don’t need your body announcing that it is ready to slow down. And, when you’re standing up there in a room full of the company’s top executives all set to give that presentation, mental fogginess and confusion is a definite no-no! Yes, skewed hormones can do that to you.

Many Other Factors Contribute to Hormone Imbalances

Aside from the natural slowing down of the hormone production in your body, several other factors may add to the hormone imbalances. For instance, stress and lack of sleep resulting from the long hours you put in at work and at home can make the hormone cocktail in your body go haywire.

Several ingredients that are a part of the food you eat and the products you use every day may also affect the hormones in your body and consequently, your health. Here are some surprising facts.

  • Xenoestrogens are man-made compounds that mimic the natural estrogen your body produces. When you absorb them, they skew the balance of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone in your body and create havoc.
  • Xenoestrogens are present in the beef and dairy products you regularly consume. Animals are fed these compounds by way of synthetic growth boosters that find their way into the food you eat.
  • Various household cleaning products, toiletries, and cosmetics may also contain xenoestrogens. For instance, the nail paint you use or the acetone you apply when you’re ready for a new nail color.
  • The plastic you use to carry or warm your food can contain toxic xenoestrogens.
  • The insecticides and pesticides in your food can cause imbalances.
  • Toxic chemicals containing xenoestrogens can enter your bloodstream by way of the bleached tissues, napkins, and feminine hygiene products you use.

Shocking, isn’t it? With so many agents contributing to the natural chaos in your body, it is understandable that you might find that achieving your life goals is becoming more of a challenge.

So, How Can You be Sure that Your Health Issues are Linked to Hormone Imbalances?

If it is really hormone imbalances impacting your health, you’ll notice these symptoms:

  • Insomnia and disturbed sleep patterns
  • Unexplained weight gain and an increase in belly fat
  • Hot flashes and sweating at night
  • Weakening muscles and bones
  • Fatigue and lack of stamina
  • Depression, anxiety, and short temper
  • Lowered libido
  • Digestion issues with sudden cravings for sweets, carbs, dairy products, and alcohol (now you know why you can eat a whole tub of ice cream without stopping)

If you’ve been seeing these signs, you only need a simple blood test. Once the hormone imbalances have been identified, you can set about correcting the problem and getting your life back. Remember? You’ve got your sights set on that promotion. And, the corner office that comes with it.

The Solution is Simple – Hormone Replacement Therapy

Getting help for hormone imbalances is easier than you think. You only need to get hormone replacement therapy at a certified center nearest to you. The highly-qualified practitioners will assess you for the precise hormone issues you’re facing. Next, they’ll prescribe the exact supplements that can correct the skewed balances. The best positive about these supplements is that they are derived from natural, plant sources that are not likely to cause any worrying adverse effects. They mimic the hormones that your body produces and are formulated keeping your specific needs in mind.

So, without delay, head for the Los Angeles hormone replacement therapy center for treatment. Correct your health issues within a short time. And, soon you can go back to being the superwoman you know you are. Nothing can stop you from achieving everything you want from life.
