Ok everyone get your pencils out because this post is going to be educational! Ironically I JUST did a financial project that included making a budget for someone that included saving for a vacation. Of course I am not going to go into my actual financial details on the internet but I am going to throw some figures out there. I want to go to Disney next summer. It’s probably not going to happen that fast but I am still going to do a mockup of budgeting to see how far away we are from my goal.
I wanted more ideas besides mathematical equations to help me with family vacation budgeting. I never thought about it but a debt consolidation website actually has a LOT of information and tips to help you save money when planning. I think the most helpful thing I learned on that site is that its probably not the best time to go in the summer! Off peak times are cheaper not only for the destination but usually airfare. And since there will be at least 4 of us we need to catch a break with that. Maybe we’ll end up in Florida in the winter instead! There are also other discounts, for instance, if you are a Sams Travel Club member there are discounts! Military families usually get special rates at least once a year as well.
Ok for my family of four, for a week Disney Vacation we’d need probably about $3,000. That is a LOT of money to sock away in time for summer. I’d need to cut back either transportation or only do like a 3 day. Also food is extremely expensive in the park and I would want to have a meal plan set up. I am going to shop around for the best Disney Package and let you know my findings. I know there are other tips and sites devoted to going to Disney on a budget. I think staying on grounds might actually be a bad idea for the budget!
