I am a video gamer for life. I will be a great grandma someday still trying to play video games. I always knew it would be a blast to play games with my kids and it really is. Our oldest son, Colton, is 12 and deep in the throes of gaming. He mostly used computer games but since we got the PS3, Colton has been using it and loving it. Here is the reaction I got when I told him Activision sent us the Tony Hawk: Ride to test out:
And my daughter too lol
About the Game: This is an interactive game where the skateboard is the “controller”. Its very accurate and sensitive to the riders movements so that when you tip the nose up or lean, or even sweep your foot like you are “pushing off” on a real skateboard, the sensor can see it and the character on the screen does it too
The board is the same size as a real skateboard only without wheels. And you won’t be jumping and twisting and doing crazy moves to get your tricks. The game is designed where slight movements when you raise the nose of the board will determine the tricks. If you don’t have carpet floors then you can use the included strips to put on the bottom of your board to create some traction to you don’t go sliding all over your smooth floors. The board itself has a sensor on each side and front to back and then one side contains the start button and other buttons.
You cannot however use the board as a controller in any other game. In fact you have to use a regular controller to get through the menu screens before you can even use the board. There are 2 drawbacks to this board. 1. Overly sensitive on menu’s AFTER you ride. What I mean is you can tip the board up and down in the menu to choose to replay and whatnot. Its way too easy to scroll right past your desired function because the board sensed a very slight movement. 2. My husband, who isn’t all that old at age 37, feels that they should make an alternative controller for older people who can’t physically do the board. And rest assured this game is VERY physical. I had to have Colton reapply his deoderant after a few run throughs.
There is a large training level for those who needed the training. I let my 6.5 year old daughter play too and she is GOOD. She did the training and did very well and went on to try a real level and beat Colton’s score. I love the game personally because its physical and exciting. Yeah its harder for me and the hubby who are out of shape but it is a LOT of fun!
Here is a video of Colton trying out the game:
Buy It: You can find Tony Hawk: Ride Skateboard Bundle at Amazon at its on sale right now for $99 down from $119!
A big thanks to Activision for sending us this great game and board to review!

I hope they will join forces with Shaun White, I would probably actually get on the board and try that. I am just a little nervous that I will fall. I loved every Tony Hawk game and I actually like the ease of use of this (I never really got into beating the TH games and just casually played and used cheat codes but I always enjoyed the games nonetheless).
That said, this game is an arcade like experience. And we have spent a lot of time at real arcades over the years. I always wanted to buy a bunch of arcade games and have a room set up with multiplayer racing games, etc. If you think about it, these kind of games make that closer to reality. Even if you had to buy 10 PS3s, you could have quite an arcade and save a ton.
Back to “Ride…” I am getting the kids to stand up more and our TV has to set up high on the entertainment center due to it’s width (it’s a 40 in 1080p HDTV). I soon realized this is the perfect setup for an arcade experience. I hope to try out more games with light guns and special controllers and see more ways to bring the “real” arcade experience home.
We have yet to try racing games with a wheel, and I’m hoping we can do more with these types of games. We are casual gamers for the most part. Colton is our star game tester, he will beat the entire game with ease (any game pretty much).
A good game break makes for lots of family fun. Too much gaming is never good, but no gaming at all…hey at least get out Uno or something…even my dad plays that on his PS3 and he is over 60!
We have this and my son loves it! Every weekend his friends pop over to “RIDE” with him.

We also received this game for review and we love it. The kids love to show it off to everyone who comes into the house and even Maddisyn gets on it like she is going to play the game which is so cute. Colton looks like he is loving it, we would love to see a video of you riding it next Candy.
