I am not the greenest mom on the planet but I like to do my part. Plastic isn’t all that safe with its chemicals and more recently. the leeching of those chemicals into the liquids in a bottle or cup. Aiden is not a huge fan of using a sippy cup. He likes to drink from a regular cup but of course they spill. He’s working on it though. In the meantime I learned that a company called Silikids manufactures a silicone sleeve around a drinking glass that makes it easy to grab and protects against breakage. Silicone does not decompose but it is recyclable in special recycle centers. Silicone is also BPA free and hypoallergenic.
Silikids sent us a Siliglass in lime to try with Aiden. At almost 16 months he still spills so we just put water in it and watched to see how he did. We didn’t have to hold it and show him anything he just did it!
It was easy for him to grip and he didn’t drop it. Quite a feat for a little guy who is only 16 months! I like the grips on it because it really just makes it so easy to grasp which is a good thing for kids this little.
I guess the only thing I would try to invent was a glass sippy that is safe, in that the spout is made from silicone but the rest could be glass. I am not ready to let Aiden go on his own with a real cup just yet so something spillproof would be desirable. I think I’d like to get a couple skins for regular cups for my older kids and myself and husband though. Oh and for the girls, I hope they make a pink version of the Siliglass soon.
Buy It: Siliglass retails for $7.95 and come in Aqua or Lime. If you would like to learn more about silicone sleeves for glass bottles get your own Siliglasses, you can get them on the Silikids site! Right now they have a promotion going too. Enter the code SILIBABY to get 10% off your order!
