Wearable Art: Color Your Clothes! Review & Giveaway

How often is it that you get a chance to color a shirt and then wear it? if I were a kid I would totally love that! Wearable Art has these wonderful kits that have printed designs that you color in with dye “crayons”. You set the design with the iron and its permanent. Sounds easy enough, right? Wearable Art sent us 2 shirt kits, one for Aiden and one for Alyssa…

Now I let Alyssa do what she wanted and decorate how she wanted because she is 7. And for her it was hard to color because you have to keep the fabric taut at all times or it bunches up and its harder to get the color on there. But overall she had it colored in about 15 minutes:

And Aiden’s little robot shirt, I helped him color and he got disinterested (hey he’s 20 months old he has the attention span of a fly!) so I colored it. Its adorable!

I washed these lovely shirts and I am happy to report that there was no bleeding! But there was noticeable fade in the colors but not enough to where the color was gone just a washed out look. Areas that we put a lot of color in stayed pretty bright so I suggest coloring heavy to retain color. Also you will need an iron because you need to place a piece of paper on the design and iron it to set the colors.

I think its a great idea and a fun summer craft! If I could make a suggestion it would be to come up with a way to stabilize the shirt for coloring so it doesn’t bunch up. Other than that it was easy and fun!
