We;ve been testing out the new site Yoursphere for the last 6 weeks. To refresh your memory, Yoursphere is a site that is aimed at teens and tweens to use as a private social network platform as opposed to unregulated MySpace and Facebook. Colton is soon to be 13, and even at that young age was exposed to bad stuff inadvertently when searching for model cars. It was then we limited his online use. We also wanted to keep him safe so we don’t let him privately message anyone, anywhere, at any time. Yoursphere helped him to be social but in a safer atmosphere.  Best of all its free. There are paid memberships that allow some extras but for the most part your teen/tween can join for free.

I would have to say for us, Colton and I, we really checked out the “spheres” that all the kids made but once we discovered ourWorld that is pretty much all we did. I would log in late at night to see what he did that day and then I would go play games under his avatar (Jameson) and earn points. I couldn’t help it, they have bejeweled! We also had a lot of fun decorating his condo last week with the points/coins we had accumulated.

I would have to say that we enjoyed the site. Colton is near 13 and seemed to get bored with it so I had to nudge him but he enjoyed it. He like to customize every single site or game he spends time on so he really liked that he could customize his home page hub and also his avatar and condo in ourWorld. As a mom I have enjoyed that I can monitor him so easily. At this age its hard to keep an eye on him at all times but at least I can watch him a little closer with YourSphere.
