Ever Been Exposed to Asbestos? You Need to Watch Out For these Health Issues

July 12, 2017 by Mandy

Source

People are now much more clued up on their health and well-being than ever before. From knowing the right diet to eat to looking out for warning signs of certain diseases, there’s a much bigger focus on prevention and early diagnosis. However, when it comes to asbestos exposure, you must be much more careful and know what to look out for. Before it was a banned and controlled substance, asbestos was everywhere, exposing many people to it. Now the health risks are understood, and those who have been exposed to asbestos should be acutely aware of the risks they face with their health.

Pain around your chest

Now, this might sound like an obvious one. If you’re experiencing pain in your chest, you should call the emergency services if you think you’re having a heart attack. However, not all chest pain is related to a heart attack. Pain in your chest is one of many mesothelioma symptoms, and shouldn’t be ignored – especially if you’ve had asbestos exposure. Likewise, mesothelioma can appear through symptoms like constant coughing, pain in the abdomen and back, shortness of breath and heart palpitations.

Shortness of breath

Not only is this a symptom of mesothelioma, but a shortness of breath can also be linked to lung cancer and other asbestosis diseases. So, if you struggle to get your breath back, and find it hard to exercise, then speak to your doctor. When shortness of breath appears in someone with asbestos exposure, it can become a very serious matter. If you’re suffering from this and smoke cigarettes, you should try to stop as soon as possible. It won’t alleviate your current situation and can make any underlying causes – such as cancer – much worse.

Difficulty swallowing

If you find it difficult to swallow, then you need to get to a doctor. This is another common symptom of asbestos exposure, and if it prevents you from eating properly, it can make you very ill. In addition to finding it hard to swallow, you might also struggle with face or neck swelling, and coughing up blood. If these symptoms appear, then you shouldn’t hesitate in getting a medical appointment.

What do with these symptoms?

If you go to see a doctor, you’ll be put through a series of intensive tests and scans. From x-rays and MRIs to lung function tests, you’ll be thoroughly examined until a cause is found. When you go for an appointment, it’s useful to bring some information about your exposure to asbestos. Try to include how much you were exposed to and for how long, the source of it, and any other background information, like previous lung illnesses, how much alcohol you drink, and whether you smoke.

If you’re worried about your current role, and whether you’re being exposed to asbestos unsafely, you should discuss with your employer. If you work in some industries, such as construction, mechanics, and manufacturing, it might be inevitable that you’ll come into contact with it. However, there are strict regulations around how you should be protected, and your employers must follow these procedures.

Why a Botox Party Is out of the Question

July 4, 2017 by Mandy

Botox is an incredibly popular procedure. If done properly, it is safe and very effective, as well as being affordable. Because of its popularity, a lot of people have trained in the administration of Botox and now administer it during so-called “Botox parties”. If you want Botox in San Jose, however, you need to avoid those parties at all cost. The little bit of extra money you have to pay to have the treatment done in a controlled environment is definitely worth it. Let’s take a look at the five main reasons why you should never attend one of those parties.

  1. Because Medical Procedures and Alcohol Do not Mix

When you go to a Botox party, you are guaranteed to see the alcohol flowing. In fact, it is quite common for those administering the treatment to bring a couple of bottles of bubbly with them as well. When you consume alcohol, the blood is thinned. This can cause the Botox to travel to areas where it shouldn’t go, leading to undesirable effects.

  1. Because You Will Be Pressured into Doing it

A lot of people think they want to have Botox, visit a clinic for consultation, and decide it is not for them anyway. If you are at a Botox party, however, you will have to face a lot of peer pressure of people, under the influence of alcohol, who will tell you to “just do it”. As such, you relinquish control to a degree.

  1. Because You Are not in a Medical Environment

As much as you may have cleaned your house before a Botox party, it is not a sanitary environment. Furthermore, the person who has to bring the Botox will have had to travel with it, which means that you don’t know whether it is still at the right temperature. Lastly, should someone experience an allergic reaction, there will be nothing you can do.

  1. Because You Don’t Get a Full Consultation

Consultations are important and should always be offered before Botox. This is a chance to find out what the treatment is, whether it is right for you, and whether you have to take some precautions before you have it. With Botox parties, you don’t have this opportunity. While you can often have treatment straight after your consultation if you want to in a clinic, this does not mean that time period in which details are discussed isn’t important.

  1. Because You Will Probably not Sign any Consent and Liability Forms

Nobody wants to sign legal forms when the music is playing, the alcohol is flowing, and everybody is having fun. In fact, under those circumstances, you can’t sign a legal form and have it be classed as valid. This means that you have, effectively, not given consent for the procedure, and that the administrator will not be liable should something go wrong. Do you really want to take that risk?

Botox is incredibly safe when administered by a licensed professional in a medical environment. That is worth paying a few extra dollars for!

What to Expect with Breast Cancer Treatment Options

July 4, 2017 by Mandy

Source

Breast cancer is rising in this country, and it continues to be one of the deadliest and most common forms of cancer. Yet, despite all of this, people still don’t really know about the mastectomy procedure or other treatment options that are available to them. It is important to understand what these treatments involve, so that you can choose the one that is right for you and gives you the biggest chance of recovery.

The Mastectomy

The mastectomy is used the world over in the treatment of breast cancer in the world. This is a surgical procedure whereby either one or both breasts are removed in full. In so doing, any tumors and cancerous cells are also removed in full.

Around 77% of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer in Europe will have a mastectomy. Yet, in the United States, only around 56% of women do. They will choose different treatment options instead.

Breast Cancer and Early Detection

Breast cancer is a form of cancer that can be treated very successfully, but only if it is caught early. Early detection, however, still needs to be improved on. Unfortunately, many women don’t regularly check themselves for breast cancer signs. This is in part because they don’t know what to look for, but also because they are afraid of finding something.

In 2004, a study showed that around 216,000 women in this country received a breast cancer diagnosis. 40,000 of these cases proved to be fatal. Depending on early detection and treatment, the survival rate for breast cancer is between 10% and 98%. The different variables involved in the disease are what make these percentages sway so much Breast cancer can occur in men and women, but it is 100 times more common in women. This is why it is women who must focus so much on proper early detection.

To improve current statistics, women should become more knowledgeable about the treatment options that are available to them. They should also know how to conduct self-examinations and commit to performing those at least once a month. With all forms of cancer, but particularly so with breast cancer, early detection is key to successful survival rates. The sooner cancer is identified, the more likely it is that a woman will survive it as well.

Breast cancer is serious and it is important to understand that it certainly has the potential to be deadly. It can also occur in anyone, regardless of age or gender. Women are more likely to develop it, and particularly women over 50, but that does not mean that men or those under 50 should not worry about it at all. The reality is that late diagnosis is what makes this disease so fatal. To stop yourself from becoming part of this statistic, you should do your research and perform regular self-examination.

And do also remember that, if you do have breast cancer and have to have a mastectomy, you can still have a fantastic quality of life.

Two Great Tips to Achieve a Youthful Appearance

June 22, 2017 by Mandy

It is said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, yet very few women actually ask anyone what they should do to look their most beautiful. The answers would surprise these women because they would be both in their reach and easy to achieve. Simple thing like using high-quality skin care products from companies like Jeunesse Global, or maintaining a healthy diet that consists of the right mix of lean protein, complex carbohydrates, smart fats, nutrients, and vitamins, are high on the list and attainable by every woman. Here are two other key things that anyone can do to get a youthful appearance.

Find an exercise regimen that you love and stick to it

We all know how wonderful and important exercise is to our overall health. In addition to when you cleanse your skin daily, we also know to some degree of the health benefits to the skin and overall appearance that raising your heart rate and sweating can create. In fact, anyone one would argue that unless you do it to an extreme or indulge in some potentially dangerous exercise activity, there is no downside to exercising.

Yet most people do not exercise regularly. So in spite of the wonderful benefits available most simply do not get access to them. This is why it is important to not just acknowledge its benefits, it is as important to find the exercise that motivates you to do it regularly.

The wonderful part of all of this is that there are literally dozens of different types of exercises from which to choose. You can walk, run, jog, do Yoga, take aerobics, swim, lift weights, bicycle, roller-skate, play tennis, golf, Zumba, surf, and these are only a small sample of what is available to you.

The key is to find that thing that gets you to make it a part of your life. You can choose a type of exercise like volleyball which gets you involved on a team, a solo exercise like long distance running, a high impact exercise like Muay Thai training, or low impact like trampolining.

You can find age-modified versions of most exercises so no matter what your age if you want to do it, you can. My point is, that you can experiment in any direction in order to come up with your perfect fit, because that is what it will take to keep you going regularly. So go on the journey of discovering what you love in the exercise world and then do it as often as you can.

Keep your makeup simple

The power of make-up cannot be overstated. It has the ability to make someone look completely different or look like someone else. Unfortunately most women do not know the ways to best apply their make-up so that it flatters their features, and because of this too many women wear unflattering and sometimes garish make-up.

Many women overdue the amount of make-up they put on themselves. Some think that less is more, other times they are trying to hide flaws, and other times they have seen it on someone else and thought it will look great on them. The reality is that most women do not look good with large amounts of make-up on their faces. And if you ask most top make-up artists the right approach to applying make-up they will tell you that less is more and a light touch is the best approach. Too much color looks overbearing and too showy.

Also too much make-up on the skin clogs the pores leading to skin problems. You should use the make-up to cover some flaws and to define your cheekbones jawline or other good assets, but stay away from the paintbrush style strokes with the make-up brush. You will look better and your skin will be healthier too.

These two simple tips are important in your looking your best. So make today the day to start on your goal of looking younger and feeling great too.

Top Tips To Sticking To Your Diet

June 19, 2017 by Mandy

Source

Up until this time last year, I had struggled for many years with my weight and had been yo-yo dieting ever since I could remember. I understood the negative affect that this was having on my body and also the emotional turmoil that goes with trying to lose weight, or indeed being overweight.

Last year I started going to a new gym and run into an old school friend called Heather Weber Merrill Lynch accountant these days and someone who I used to enjoy spending time with. Heather was in the same boat as me and we made a pact that together we would finally get healthy. So far it has been a successful plan and I wanted to share with you some tips which I followed in order to do it.

Regular and Easy Goals

The key to losing weight is about feeling as though you are actually achieving something and in order to do this it is important that you decide upon easy-to-reach goals, and plenty of them. Simply saying that you are going to lose X amount of kilos in the next months is not enough to keep you going and instead, why not give yourself a target such as eating 5 fruit and veg per day for a week, or doing at least 30 minutes of exercise a few times per week. This goals should be set regularly and each week they should increase in difficulty.

Planning

I know that many will share with me the fact that if you haven’t planned your meals and you are hungry then you are much more likely to go and pick up something convenient and unhealthy. In order to avoid this you should be looking at having a tight plan when it comes to you meals each day. Make a menu and a shopping list on Sunday, head to the grocery store and pick up everything you need and then take the decision not to buy anything more until the following Sunday.

Buddy Up

The fact that I was dieting and exercising with the help of a friend who was in the same position as me really helped to keep me motivated and if you can buddy up with someone then you will be greatly increasing your chances of success. When you are doing this kind of program with someone, you have somebody who will hold you accountable and keep pushing you when you are feeling low, and visa versa.

Change Attitude

The reason why I have been able to stick to my plan for such a long time is that I have altered my attitude towards food entirely and not just for a short while. When I used to crash diet I couldn’t wait until it was over so that I could grab a bar of chocolate and a bottle of wine,  all this served to do was put the weight back on. Instead, I now have a healthy life and whenever I do eat or drink something which is not good for me, I do so in proportion so as not to go back to how I used to be.
