First of all, you have to complete an undergraduate education to get into law. The American Bar Association currently has not placed any requirements on which undergraduate degree you have to follow, however. Hence, pick something that you are interested in so that you can earn that high GPA that the law school admission council will look for.
A GPA
You must ensure that you have a very high GPA. This is something, together with LSAT, that all law schools look at. A high GPA is also a confidence booster, as it will tell you that you should be able to ace the LSAT as well. Make sure you work hard and take your education seriously, therefore.
The LSAT
Next, you will need to sit the LSAT, which most people call the “law school application”. Your score is one of the key factors that will determine whether or not you will get into law school. Hence, make sure you use any opportunity you have to study for the LSAT, even if you have only just started your undergraduate education. The sooner you take the test, the better, not in the least because it will give you time to resit if need be.
A Personal Statement
Next, you will have to write a personal statement as part of your application. This is a statement in which you explain your dedication to the degree and the school. Unsurprisingly, most people write virtually the same things in there. They write that they are dedicated to justice and a lawful society, and that they think of the particular university in such high esteem. These are certainly things that you need to include, but there is more to it as well. You have to stand out, somehow.
Getting into law school isn’t easy. However, with a good undergraduate degree and a high GPA, passing the LSAT score, and writing an outstanding personal statement, you should be able to get there. Remember that competition is quite fierce for law school applications, so you may find yourself turned away from the majority of schools you apply for. Don’t let this dishearten you, however. See it as a character building exercise. The more you can cope with rejection, the better you will be prepared for the rest of your life as well.
Of course, getting into law school is only half of the battle, you also have to complete it and sit the bar exam.
